The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor, External Affairs.
The UCLA External Affairs organization consists of the departments of Advancement Services, Alumni Relations, Development, Finance and Information Management, Government and Community Relations and University Communications. The Division is supported by more than 450 full-time staff and has a budget of approximately $50 million. In 2005, the University concluded Campaign UCLA, an unprecedented fundraising effort that generated more than $3.1 billion in private support. And, on an annual basis, UCLA’s premier fundraising program raises in excess of $250 million.
The External Affairs Division advances UCLA’s university-wide mission of teaching, research and community service through a coordinated campus-wide communications, advocacy and development effort with an organizational mission “to build enduring relationships that promote advocacy and financial support for UCLA.”
The Vice Chancellor, External Affairs reports directly to the Chancellor of the UCLA campus and is the chief external affairs officer for UCLA, responsible for directing and executing an ambitious fundraising agenda, and an integrated external relations program including communications, community engagement, and public affairs.
The Vice Chancellor also serves as Executive Vice President of the UCLA Foundation, serving on its board of directors as the key campus executive officer to UCLA’s highest level volunteer structure, developing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with key volunteers involved in development, endowment management, advocacy and community relations activities on behalf of the campus. As a member of the Chancellor’s Executive Committee, the Vice Chancellor develops and advises the Chancellor on external affairs strategy and serves as a senior advisor on a wide range of issues.
The Chancellor and Search Committee seek a senior level external affairs executive with a proven track record of accomplishment and strategic leadership in relevent divisions within External Affairs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in development strategy; the ability to build and draw upon significant relationships with external constituents; exemplary interpersonal and communication abilities; the highest level of integrity; outstanding management and administrative skills; high energy, and a passion for the promotion and attainment of UCLA’s external affairs goals.
