Rosina Becerra named Vice Provost,
Faculty Diversity and Development

To: Vice Chancellors, Deans, Directors, Department Chairs and Chancellor’s Organization Staff

I am pleased to announce that, effective immediately, Rosina Becerra, formerly associate vice chancellor for faculty diversity, will serve as vice provost, faculty diversity and development, reporting directly to me.  In this capacity, she will work closely with Chancellor Block and me to assign more visibility and centrality to faculty diversity issues.  I have asked Vice Provost Becerra to also extend her ongoing work relating to faculty search processes, individual mentoring and coaching and networking opportunities.  And she will continue to facilitate resolution of family issues confronting our faculty, such as childcare and spousal hires.

In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Vice Provost Becerra is a professor of social welfare and policy studies in the School of Public Affairs.  Her research focuses on policy issues relating to children and families.  Since coming to UCLA in 1975, she has served as associate dean and dean of the School of Social Welfare, chair of the Department of Social Welfare, chair of the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies, director of the Center for Child and Family Policy Research and acting director of the Institute for Industrial Relations.  She has also served as a member of many Academic Senate committees, including the Council on Research, Committee on Educational Policy and the Council of Academic Personnel.

Vice Provost Becerra holds a B.A. degree in mathematics and chemistry, a master’s in social work (M.S.W.), an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

Please join me in extending congratulations and appreciation to Rosina for her work on behalf of diversity and faculty development at UCLA.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Waugh
Acting Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
