Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of a search committee charged with identifying candidates for dean of the School of Public Affairs.  As you know, Dean Barbara Nelson has announced that she will step down from this position after more than 10 years of distinguished service, effective June 30, 2008.

Aimée Dorr, dean of the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, has graciously agreed to chair the search committee.  Other members are:

Joel Aberbach – Department of Political Science
David Fisher – Chairman of the Board, Capital Group International and Capital Guardian Trust Companies and member of the School of Public Affairs Dean’s Advisory Council
Aurora Jackson – Department of Social Welfare
Stuart Kirk – Social Welfare
Arleen Leibowitz – Department of Public Policy
Michael Stoll – Department of Public Policy
Lois Takahashi – Urban Planning
Brian Taylor – Department of Urban Planning
Jonathan Zasloff – School of Law

To enhance the search effort, we have commissioned an executive search firm, Witt/Kieffer, represented by Mary Elizabeth Taylor.

More specific information about the position announcement will be forwarded in the near future, with an opportunity for you to help identify suitable candidates.

I am grateful to Academic Associate Dean Fernando Torres-Gil, who is serving as acting dean during Barbara’s current medical leave.

Sincerely,
Scott L. Waugh
Acting Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
