Finalists named for Director,
American Indian Studies Center

18 February 2008

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your interest, input and involvement with the search for Director of the UCLA American Indian Studies Center (AISC).

I write to provide the names of the distinguished candidates who will be invited by Vice Chancellor Claudia Mitchell-Kernan for campus visits during the months of March and April:

  • Angela R. Riley, Irving D. and Florence Rosenberg Professor of Law, Southwestern Law School
  • C. Matthew Snipp, Professor of Sociology, Stanford University
  • Robert Allen Warrior, Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential Professor, Department of English, University of Oklahoma
  • Jace Weaver, Professor for the Department of Religion, Law School and Native American Studies; Director of the Institute of Native American Studies; Co-Director of Studies Abroad Vietnam Program, University of Georgia

Per common practice, candidates will give a research presentation to faculty, students, staff and community members, which will be followed by a question and answer session and an informal reception during which attendees can meet with the candidate.  The candidates will meet with AISC, American Indian Studies Interdepartmental Program (IDP) and campus leadership.  As the AISC director also holds an academic appointment at UCLA, the candidates will meet with key individuals of their prospective academic departments.

We very much hope to schedule the visits during the weeks of March 10, March 31, and April 7.

Please feel free to distribute this information to interested faculty, students, staff and community members.

We will finalize and forward the details of the presentations as soon as possible, and hope that you and your colleagues will be able meet the candidates.

Sincerely,

Paul Ong, Ph.D.
